I usually don't write my address on the card anymore since I always exchange snail mail add with my swap pals before we start our exchange. But last month I wanted to send a card to a pal in the Netherlands, but I was worried that it might not reach her, so I wrote my return address just in case. And what happened was that the card was MAILED TO MY HOME !! It was hilarious, don't you think?
I wrote the TO and FROM pretty clearly but alas the postal workers just didn't bother to read it properly and they just sent the card to my home! What would I want to send postcard back to my home in Malacca from my hostel? How frustrating.
Dear pals, I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Have a lovely weekend!
Bree
I never write my address on my cards. Since most of the postal workers here aren't that smart either. ;) I'm thinking of ordering small address stickers though.
ReplyDeleteThat's much wiser! :)
DeleteI don't arite them, the one who is supposed to receive it will know who to send back a reply card. I think that could happen often that it will be received back.
ReplyDeleteSilly me! I was afraid that the address she gave me might be incorrect. Since it's my first time sending her a card, I provided my return address so that it will be returned to me if it's undelivered.
DeleteI sometimes write them, but not the way / place where you wrote it. Most times machines read the addresses and they just read the address on the right and below, so they don't care if it says to or from. If I write my return address, I put it on the left side of the card somewhere in the upper corner or I write it vertical at the very left side of the card. So, next time better not write your address below the stamp :)
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Guess I did confuse the postal workers! Okay, lesson learnt. Best don't write return address on the card. :) Thanks for the tips in case I have to write my address.
DeleteThat has happened to me multiple times. I like to put my address on the card in case but sometimes the machine reads the printed address label easier than my handwriting so it comes to me. Sucks when that happens. :/
ReplyDeleteI don't write my address on my postcards. Not because I don't wan't to (because I absolutely would if I could) but because my writing is so big that once I write my address, there is barely room on the postcard for a message. But if I had lovely smaller writing (which it appears that you do! :)), and there was room for a return address, I would go to town! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't write my home address on postcards but I do on envelopes on the back! Still I have had mail returned to me and the post offices excuse it that it machinery sorting the mail. The thing is though why would I spend so much money on sending a letter to myself.
ReplyDeleteOh that's a funny thing that happened to you! :D That has never happened to me. That's probably because I usually don't write my address on the card. There just isn't any space.
ReplyDeleteI started writing my return address on cards because some of them got lost, which is sad. I've never had one mailed to me, but what I do is write/put my address sticker vertically on the card, either at the far left edge or in the space between the message and the address. And it does work if the mail isn't deliverable, because I have had one card returned to me with an "undeliverable address" sticker.
ReplyDeleteI always write the return address on my envelopes. So far I haven't received any letter back, but we never know! And it would be such a shame a letter gets lost just because there wasn't any return address on it!
ReplyDeleteI do put a sticker on some cards but I usually stick them vertically to the far left since I also have received some mail back (even when putting my address sticker on the back of an envelope)
ReplyDeleteIt's not the postal workers here but the silly sorting machines that are lazy so they read printed better than written addresses :/
There is some international recommendations for putting addresses on the envelopes. I posted that here:

I think postal workers don't get confused, but machines do. So it's better to put the return address top left, or on the back (if it's an envelope).
I don't write my address in Postcrossing postcards, but I do when I send mail to my friends or penpals. Sometimes (few times) the postal service have returned the letter, so I'm grateful to know it is not lost...
That happened to me yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI sent postcards in envelope to friend in Argentina a month ago and yesterday I got my envelope back. There wasn`t written that it is not delivered or wrong address but it came back to me.
But I always write address on the back of envelope.
So probably sorting machine......
Never happened to me so far, but I have heard several times from other people the same situation, especially with packages :/ How frustrating :(
ReplyDeletehi bree, i always put my address on the back of covers i send....the few postcards ive sent, no. if you ask me, better not putting sender's address on a postcard. by the way received your cover. loved it. its awesome. :):)
ReplyDeleteHehee that did make me chuckle!! :-) Hope you're well Bree xo
ReplyDeleteI hate when stuff like that happens, But had not happen with as post card but has happen with letters grrrrrrrrrrrr. But I loved the cute photo.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes to, but then I ALWAYS put a cross over my address. At least here in Norway that means it's not the valid address of the receiver. This is something I always do with packages too. (:
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you've received my package yet? From the Giveaway?
ReplyDeleteI do write my return address on letters, but never on postcards.. I had the same situation with my letters - sometimes they were delivered to my home and I had to take them back to the post office!
ReplyDeleteAw! I had the same thing happen with a really small parcel once.
ReplyDeleteI don't write my return address on postcards, but then again I only send those when I'm on a holiday, otherwise I tend to use envelopes.
Also, I have a little address stamp these days. It's small and pretty obvious it would be the return address, you might want to consider getting one of those.
I'm from the Netherlands too :D
